Unfortunately, this is based on the average price quoted for a replacement key:

    S Class - £235
    C Class - £231

Cheapest was the Vauxhall Corsa at £127

When I was a lad, that sort of money would let you take the Regiment to dinner and still have change for the bus home :)

Could be argued that comparitively the S class key is good value!

Very strange, I remember replacing my BMW key for £65 from the dealer, it was a pleasant surprise to be honest!

Geez - even the Corsa key is twice what I paid for my first car!! (A great old 1965 Vauxhall VX490 - £60 and it took me and my then girlfriend all the way from Glasgow to Cannes and back)

Not sure why there is a price difference since practically all MBs use the same type of key.

Aren't most S classes likely to have Keyless Go ?

The little report didn't go into that level of detail. I did think one comment made was quite pertinent though - that it's pretty hard to steal a car now without the proper key. If these fancy keys prevent the car from being stolen, you could argue that they're good value compared to the hassle / loss involved in a vehicle theft - although I'm not sure if the electronics have to be quite so expensive to achieve this.

You must remember that the key is only one part of the security system. The wee bit we all carry around.

The rest is built into the vehicle.

How much for a Tracker etc. ?
