Hello,

My exhaust is very bassy and it is lacking the rasp to have the perfect sound for me. The car is an ML500 W163 and I've deleted resonator and muffler so I'm left with 4 cats 2 on each side which then joins into a Y pipe and out the back as a single exit. I had two resonators go into a the Y pipe but that just made it worse and got rid of the little rasp my exhaust had. To add to that I have an LPG tank at the back where the AMG's have the dual tip muffler, so I'm unable to put a nice muffler in the rear or do a dual exit, therefore, I'm slightly limited with space.

If anyone can give me a suggestion on what i can do to get rid of the bassy/drony sound from my exhaust and just obtain the true raspy v8 sound.

Thanks a lot.

Sell the car and buy an E63?

EXHAUST SYSTEM USED ON EIGHT-CYLINDER GASOLINE VEHICLES MERCEDES M-KLASSE [Car] [CHASSIS] (EUROPA)

Most offset plane crank V8's get their exhaust note from a cross over pipe between two entirely separate exhausts - one per bank. These can be either X pipes or straight H pipes. They both give distinct but different sounds. a custom exhaust specialist should be able to advise

Thanks for this, but I don't know if this is applicable since i have to go into a single pipe either way because I have no room to work with, so adding a H pipe and right after a Y pipe would not really make a difference right? Or am i wrong?

The reason your exhaust is “bassy” has really nothing to do with the X- or H-pipe mentioned above as it was fine when it rolled out of the factory being a “Y” (and before you started messing with it.) The resonator is there to remove the unpleasant frequencies that cause drone (or booming) at lower rpm. The silencers at the back make the system quieter.

If you’re after a louder, more pronounced V8 sound, add headers and get rid of the primary car. Then if it’s still not good enough, change the rear silencer box to something smaller/straight through. Magnaflown back boxes are a good alternative to OEM.

That would definitely solve the issue!

Hahaha! Darn phone and its autocorrect.

Put youre original back box back on, and get rid of the lower CATS I (or should I say Olly at PCS) did this to my C43 (55 engine fitted), engine sounded awesome.
