After parting company with my W123, i have replaced it with a very nice w124 1991 230e.
Its lovely apart from its had replacement wings, pattern ones, they are an awful fit.
Looking more like they are for a Fiat punto the fit is so horrible(maybe a bit dramatic)
Any ideas on the best replacements?

There are wings and then there are wings. Some spurious panels are better than others but the final fit is up to whoever fits them.

Yes I agree with that. I had my 300ce resprayed 9 years ago with replacement pattern front wings and the gaps are spot on. I know he played around with them quite a bit getting them right before they came off again prior to painting. 9 years later and the car is still mint. Choose a good body shop and you won't get any problems.

As been said after market panels vary enormously in quality. If they are in decent nick other than fit [ a diy job??] it might be worth getting them re-fitted by a decent body man. If you are unhappy with the entire package =panel quality+paint finish as well as fit then your only option is new panels fitted by a bodyshop that knows what they are doing. :dk: Always remember fit and finish are subjective. What one person thinks is "reasonable" another may throw up their hands in horror at. For that reason a recommendation for a panel make and/or fit is always best accompanied by a visual inspection of same if possible. Might be best achieved at a W124 owners get together or meeting up with an owner who has done similar work.

MB wings will fit perfectly. Find a decent used set, use a cheap pair of pattern wings as repair panels (cut out the bits needed to patch the MB wings if they have issues) and have them fitted and resprayed if you don't want to buy new MB ones.

Pattern ones vary from utterly awful to OK, the latter can be made to fit tolerably well by a good bodyshop (at a price), but the former will always look dreadful because no bodyshop can make up for ones that lack the necessary dimensions and weight of metal.

I dont think anyone can tell you a good place to pick them up from. Other than Mercedes at £380 each
Last year i was lucky that a chap was scraping a w124 on ebay .The colour was the same as mine .And after 27 years on his car, the wing was mint ,all but one scratch This was fixed by paint correction .Well its now pride of place sitting on my car . Like winning the lottery when i found this wing .So i would look in all scrap yards you can to find original merc wings .. But if you do get a pair of wings that your happy with , then please let me know .
