Mercedes SEL 560
Hello I'm new to the forum and wanted to know the cost of a engine rebuild on a SEL 560... Problem being oil has gone through Pistons and now the engine half turns over if can't be fixed I'll sell the car as is, I'm located in Coventry West Midlands

1.5-3k depending if swaps or complete rebuild i would say

Take your plugs out and get the oil out by turning the engine over. Then get a compression test done and try to determine what has actually failed before ripping the engine to bits it could be a valve seal problem or head gasket.

You could buy a second hand M117 engine and have it fitted for a lot less than that.

wow! when was the last time you got a quote?
crewe engine with or without swaps, 3k rebuilding your own engine.

swaps unless u see it running could be a problem and 560 is rare engine to get hold off anyways

100kish i think he said electric back seat interior immaculate black leather the car black metallic

These people often have stock of Zero mile M117 5.6 engines.

I've bought one from them previously for around Euro 5000 although that was some time ago.

Home - Garage Van De Velde

That's a full turnkey new factory motor, they are a day trip to Belgium and back.

Agree a replacement/rebuilt engine from Crewe would be a bullet proof option, but an expensive one.

I think though that there are lots of potentially cheaper options available, and first job is to find out what is wrong.

Car has done 104k 1991 J reg, thanks for all the responses, I'll try that Pete and thanks Dino

I would be tempted to get in touch with Jay Manek at Mercland in Nuneaton, he knows the M117 as well as anyone, and I am sure he could help, or point you in the right direction.

And if my geography is correct, he is pretty close.

Thought I'd have to put pictures in classified as that was only intention when I joined but it said I had to have 30 replies in order to list an advert

Thanks Matt that's a great help and yeah Nuneaton is 20mins down the road

If the bodywork is good, and you like the car,I would try and get it fixed.

These old boats are finally going up in price.

117k is nothing on these, if they are looked after.

I was actually going to sell it before it died on me due to my personal circumstances
