My experience- If you don’t hear a loud hissing noise under boost its pre turbo. I’d check ‘ the very hard to get on ‘ pipe that goes into the front of turbo for correct fitment.......a low drones noise would be apparent

Sound like a boot pressure leak. Check the hoses from the turbo outlet through to intercooler to the inlet manifold.

If it's an early W204, it will have the Kompressor supercharger, later W204s got a Turbocharger instead of the Kompressor.
