I’m getting the itch again for another w211 or similar, it would be my 8th lol in diesel form.

They are great cars but I’ve never had a w220.
How does a w220 compare to a top spec w211??
Anyone here had experience of both ?

I would guess all the same problems the om642 can have (I presume you mean the facelift ?) with the added complication of ABC suspension costs (+ parts availability?)
When you're cavorting with Youngsters, you tend to know what you're getting. A young E or S class is easy to describe.

But when you're hanging out with older types, who've seen a few miles and owners, things get dramatically different.

W1ghty's right, fundamentally similar but with added complications from the twinkly bits like ABC and powered this and that.

But my ... serious... point is that two decades down the line, the pattern of ownership will have been very different - in use, wear and tear, and quality of maintenance.

In broad terms, the W220 (and W221) will have been owned by the well-heeled initially, or at least by the Carriage Trade who have a vested interest in decent maintenance. While the W211 will have seen more normal, but comfortably off maintenance.

You have to buy carefully, with provenance, but be aware that the S Class is always very hard to sell, and this should go into your calculations for both buying and selling price.

om648 was the lump's i was looking at , great engines i just meant how they drive and feel more than anything.

Phenomenally successful engines at the time.

SBC yes indeed which i love :)

It's been a while since ive really been on here, had lots of going on's
Ive always had Merc's ranging from 1970's to 2014 just about every engine bar a v12 lol
Never had a w220 but have had the om648 in a s211 which was a great car, i am also aware these beasts are getting on but i am indeed handy with a spanner.
