Hello
My E320 Cdi avantgarde estate (2001) went into permanant limp mode on Friday eve.
Merecedes Assist came out Sat am and after an hour on the star machine tell me its a break light switch (simple) - phew
I limp car to Merecedes main dealer and they put it back on the star machine and 1 hour later say ' Oh forget Merecedes Assist - your problem is a faulty electro plate in the transmission box - cost: £700 + - I said ok, please fix it. Call back this evening and the car isnt fixed but Merecedes tell me 'oh, we've found another fault - its the Transmission Control Unit that needs replacing too = £800 ish (in addition to the electro plate !).
Could both of these things gone wrong in the course of Friday afternoon ? -or do Mercedes just not know what they are doing ? The car was absolutely fine before Friday - Are these common faults or is the technician just trying to cover two scenarios ?
Have heard the TCU can fail if oil leaks into it through a failed seal - sounds like a rubbish design to me.
Have to say I've lost faith with MB UK - the irony is- nobody in the service department actually new what the first component was and why the two could have failed at the same time - Customer confidence 1/10
Would be grateful for any advice - facing a £1500 bill for what should have been a simple break switch ..... thanks
