Poor sales and high prices in a "value for money" market coupled with a faltering partnership with Renault/Nissan may mean Mercedes X class may be dropped from their line up. Did it ever make it to the "land of the pickup" the USA I wonder?
Mercedes X-Class to be axed already - report

They never sold it in America, the largest market for Pickups...

    Not a surprise at all.

Talk about missed opportunity - we wait god knows how many years for Mercedes to create a rival to the Japanese and VW pickups and they try and sell a Navara with a Mercedes badge on, the V6 coming far too late..It might have sold better if they’d only had Mercedes engines.

I know plenty of people who were waiting for the X-Class to arrive and were shocked at the ridiculous price so, quite sensibly, bought a Navara instead.

I must say, it's one of the things I dislike, is a prestige brand making commercial vehicles. As it stands, the Sprinters all fall apart from rust at a very young age.

MB have been making trucks since late 1920s, I think.
Have used them, strong trucks and the Unimog is in a league of its own.

Can't say i'd be surprised i've only ever seen one on the road, i think they look cool but they are just overpriced compared to the alternatives which has put alot of people off.

Virtually every ambulance and coach and the majorty of Lorries on the road are MB - has never harmed the brand.

Hmmm, don't know about that. I know some tradesmen who for that reason will not buy MB vans.

Tradesmen have long memories ... older MB vans rusted just as badly as MB cars of that generation did (think W210 etc.). They have been galvanised since around 2005 though, which pretty much eradicated the problem. MB commercials are widely used by the emergency services, cabbies, airports/hotels, etc. and of course all VW LT / Crafter vans up to 2017 are actually Sprinters!

They wont purchase them as they are the market leader for trades vehicles?!?! That makes no sense at all.

15.7% market share in 2017 for commerical vehicles.

No that doesn't make sense, perhaps you're reading another post as that's not what I said.

They won't buy them as they turn to rust at a very early age.

I have friends in construction who are exactly the same - I saw a 2012 Sprinter on the A1 with more rust on than you would believe; it was rotten!

The newer stuff is better though to be fair but they’ve still got such a bad reputation for rot on the Vito and Sprinters that there’s a lot of people that simply won’t even entertain the thought of buying one.

I can't recall a sprinter over 5 years old that I've seen on the road without rust!

All cars/vans use to rust. I had Nissan in 80s and all the doors had rust when it just 3 years old.

Why would anyone have bought a nissan with a Renault engine with a merc badge stuck on the front for merc money, it made no sense to me, maybe if it had a merc engine in it..............

I’ve only ever seen one on our roads here in the U.K.

You’d think Mercedes would have come up with something more worthy to rival the best of the class!

A few people I know who love their pickups swear by the Nissan Navarra. My good friend once bought a top of the range err Ford Ranger a few years back and had nothing but problems with it, he swears he wouldn’t go back to one if someone paid him to have one. He’s since had a Toyota, a Mitsubishi and a VW and rates the Japanese even in their basic form streets ahead of the Ranger and then VW.

He’s currently debating whether to get the Nissan as he was impressed with our Nissan, although it’s no pick up.

We have a 16 reg top of the range X-trail (the wife’s) which we got brand new and apart from the underpowered engine (I would say that owning an E63), it’s a brilliant all-rounder and very capable as a 4x4/AWD. As a family car it ticks the lot.

I looked at Mercedes MLs before we got it and other than the engines, I honestly rated the X-trail no better or worse, far cheaper to buy, run and maintain though and a third row of seats to (in) boot!

Have seen/noticed only 3 or 4 X350 in total on my travels.

Looked up cosmetically enhanced ones (eg Deranged, DV8 and Kahn) but almost £70K .

The way people are PCP/Lease/etc MB cars at this time, MB have really missed an opportunity. Great concept but poor execution.
