Hoping this is a quick one.

I got into my car today, selected reverse to back off my drive and the car seemed to struggle a little to move. There was a metallic clunk as it finally started to move. After that all seemed ok, I tested all gearbox functions and there were no problems at all. I tried selecting reverse gear again several times and its perfect. Drove the car into work 30 odd miles and again it seems fine.

It had been standing for a few days (since last Thursday in fact) and I had washed it over the weekend. I wonder whether the handbrake had started to seize as the noise sounded quite like a stuck rear brake.

Any ideas?

Siezed brake pads after being washed and standing.
Always take it for a drive to dry them before leaving it parked after a wash.

No. They just bind onto the disk and come undone with a bang.

Ok thats good, thanks Dieselman
