I have a Blaupunkt MP3 player connected to my Travel Pilot which works great. It came with a 1GB IBM microdrive, I have seen ebay some 2 and 4GB Hitachi microdrives. Does anybody know if these are directly compatible with the IBM microdrive and would the MP3 player be able to use the bigger capacity disks?

I can get around 14 CD's worth on a 1GB drive so the 4GB drive looks attractive.

They should work fine as IBM transferred the MicroDrive technology to Hitachi last year.

A 2Gb MicroDrive will have no problems although you might want to check whether the Blaupunkt MP3 player can read FAT32 partitions. A standard FAT16 partition has a size limit of 2Gb which will make a 4Gb drive a waste if it cannot be read.

IBM disk business is now run by Hitachi Global Storage Technology http://www.hitachigst.com

It will work no problem at all - I should know ;)

Tiggers right about the partition sizes though.... good point Tigger.
