Mid brand tyre advice please

Had Kumho KU39 Ecsta Le Sport fitted on the TT recently, would highly recommend them. Event Tyres are doing them at a decent price.

Just had my second set of Falken's fitted to the S-Class 21,000 miles on the rears.

Kumho KU31 is great, think it might have just been replaced though.

I have had 5 sets of Falken FK452 but they are a noisy and a pretty firm tyre, the Kumho is softer so doesn't last as long but very quiet and comfy.

Continental Sport Contact 3 is awesome though, lasts, very quiet and s comfy, and if you are on 17s a pretty good price too, but on 19s start to get very pricey.

Which car is it for?

I still like Pilot Sport 2s best off all, but again pricey.

The CL55AMG had Falken 452's fitted all round when I got it and to be honest they have been great. Down to about 3mm on the rears and a good 5-6mm on the fronts - time to replace the rears!
For the past ten years I've always run with Vredesteins on my SAAB V6's and have a great deal of faith in these tyres.
Ideally I wanted to get the Ultrac Sessantas fitted but for all four corners it was going to be a bit pricey!
The rears are 275/35/19 and the priority - had a look at Camskill and was pleasantly suprised:
VREDESTEIN TYRES / CAR / VREDESTEIN ULTRAC SESSANTA - 275/35R19 100Y XL TL :: £175.00 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 19" :: R19" - 275/35/19, 275/35 R 19 ::_
A saving of £94.00 is not to be sneezed at!
The Falken 452's were £155.40 against £175.00 for the Vredestein Sessantas - for the difference in price I ordered the Vreds, £20.00 for fitting, I'll just have to live with the fore and aft being different for a while.

So worth a look at Camskill, I've had tyres before from them and would recommend them from my experience.

I have just put Dunlop Super Sports on the rear of the CL. Very expensive, the CL does deserve the best and they work well.

I have the Falken's on the S-Class, I'm a big fan, they are my second set. 21,000 on the rears.

I think you mean Michelin Pilot Super Sports :)

Well spotted Sean. Sounds like you had a great time at AMG, I must stop working and start enjoying myself.

I've seen Kumhos on a A-Class in the MB-Liverpool Showroom
My last A Class came with Kumhos from the factory. I found they had stiff sidewalls and rode poorly. Changed to Continental and much better.

To resurect the topic before the Lexus goes I asked the dealer what they have fitted apart from Yokos expecting them to say we only fit the OEM tyre sir but they fit mainly Kumhos and I gought a set fitted for £445. Note I got lexus to fit them on the basis the TPS was working and must be working after they have fitted them. On al older car the sensors can fail when roughly handled and it soon adds up in hassle and cash so I knew the Lexus guys would take care - and they did.

2000 miles on and they are fine, the Lex is very torque laden and its literally a switch as its the electric motor dropping in that delivers the torque and they have coped with this.

I can rec them - just cant remember the variant, will update when checked

Probably KU 31's but it would be simplistic to simply go by tyre "brand " Each tyre manufacturer produces a wide range tyres from high mileage "toughies" for commercial vehicles to high performance tyres for fast saloons and sports cars. In other words they all produce tyres that would be totally inappropriate for some cars and great for others. Pointless simply to quote a manufacturer - the exact tyre size and specific model of tyre is the minimum info to make a valid comparison for any car.

Tyre comparison tests to be found online are a useful starting point but only for the size/model/car tested. The ADAC tyre tests are a good starting point http://translate.googleusercontent....t.aspx&usg=ALkJrhiLfWhJVpwPqy4AZHGzl2XxzW7VOQ

There is also a fascinating little study of how tyre size/model from one manufacturer effects overall tyre performance. OK it was done on a Kia CEED but it shows that a particular size/model of tyre may be optimum for a particular model of car. Something I have long suspected in todays' over-tyred environment.[ sorry its not well displayed on the site] but the "modestly " shod 205/55 R16V Primacy seems to offer the optimum choice for that particular car.

Falkens are good, quite soft and grippy (452) so suit more sporting intent but wear faster

Kumhos are good also..often seen on new A+B Hankook get good reports but haven't run them

Avon ZZ5's on the SL now and they are quiet and pliant which is what the car needs..

and lets be fair anything is better than a P600 Pirelli unless you want to feel like you are in Trophy Andros!!

Anyone use nokian (Finnish made) tyres on here. Got a chance to buy four winter tyres on decent discount so quite tempted but will not fit them until this October

Falkens represent good value for money.

452's do stand out in the price bracket but the Zeix 912 is a good all rounder. Although not bigged up in the UK marketing, actually an all seasons tyre.
