I am thinking of cleaning out my fuel system with a dose of cleaner. Question is.....Which brand is best and what is the strongest mix i can use?? I was thinking of running it empty and then adding as much cleaner as i can get away with and then just a few litres of diesel and drive like that to clean it out......Any thoughts anyone?? :thumb:

I'd play safe and add the recommended amount to a full tank. I'd never run a car on near empty anyway for obvious reasons.

Not sure which is best TBH

I agree with Moonloops.
The older traditional injector pump systems are rather more tolerant, but I'd be reluctant to try anything drastic with a more-modern CDI System.
I use Millers (as recommended) all the time in our E300TDs.
I recommend it, and can advise on very cost-effective purchases of 5 litre cans if you wish to PM me.

Well, I hate to buck the trend here, but.................

use whatever you like, as they are all basically the same......

I have always favoured redex..... don't ask me why.

And I have (in toyota 4x4) put it neat into the fuel filter (when changing it) and yes it smokes for a while, but diesel engines (and their ancillary componants) are designed to burn oil, and will cope with most of the generic cleaners, as it's designed to disolve carbon deposits, and clean injectors.

I have no problem in using double the dose, just gives a more concentrated mixture, and so will clean faster.
If it's the first time, then a large dose may help, then you can follow the dosage instructions for regular maintenance cleaning.

So, you pays your money, and you takes your choice...... as in all things in life...:D

I've also wondered about this.

My W220 is up to 95k miles and I recently had 2 injectors replaced.

So I considered using an additive to slow down the next injector replacement but the car does not smoke at all and I wondered that if the engine has no issues is it worth buggering about with it?

depending how much and where you buy it from it will cost you 1-2p extra per litre of diesel. So it's not big bucks.

It was the potential for causing damage that worried me really.

I'd hate to intefere and thyen find that I mshould not have put a squirt of something into the tank in the first place.

Anyone remember the Fiat Strada that some firm drove around a track with no oil other than some teflon stuff in the engine? Turned out to be b@lls!

At that mileage i would not expect injectors needing replacing. What was wrong with them if you dont mind me asking lewyboy?
