mini-USB flash drive?

A bit of unusual query this one: I've searched everywhere and cannot find any mini-B USB flash drives. All that comes up in any search are small size standard USB drives, which is not what I'm looking for.

Just to make it clear: I want to utilise the available mini-USB port on my DVD head unit, without [mini-B]--->[A] adaptor (of which I have a few, including short 45mm ones).
Reason being: I don't want any plugged-in bits sticking out too much: ugly and unsafe.

Here's a pic to illustrate - two receptacles at the top LH corner are iPod/iPhone/iPad micro-USB and the second one is mini-USB for flash drives:

You can buy a standard USB flash drive that's about 3-4mm off of the surface, when plugged in, but nothing in mini-B format? :dk:

Any suggestions?

Thanks Beetnik, just ordered both, even though pictures look suspiciously like standard USB, I'm sure it's worth the risk ... :thumb:

Was just about to say the same.

I have never seen such a thing to be honest and would be surprised if they even existed or if they did, would cost big money.

I think you are going to be disappointed (both with what you ordered and trying to find what you are looking for)

Why not get a cable with a right angle connector then you can run it straight down the edge of the head unit keeping things neat and tidy.

Yep, quite prepared for the outcome you've described... :dk:

I agree that true mini-B USB flash drive probably doesn't exist and have
already purchased a right angle lead (great minds think alike and all that :thumb:)

It's not really something I actually NEED - quite happy with SD card (just below the USB ports, under the flexi cover) and, going to install USB ports and iPhone/iPad ports in the new armrest and in the glove compartment (there are extra connectors on the back of the head unit I haven't utilised yet), and a freeview TV ... so in terms of connectivity it is quite versatile and certainly not lacking, in fact my car is not able to accommodate all that is available - i.e. all the steering wheel controls are, unfortunately unused, as my wheel doesn't have them (thought about fitting in a W169 steering wheel, but apparently it's not that straightforward).

Well, the first one arrived - 8GB one, and it was just a standard USB, not mini-B :wallbash: It actually has a sticker on the packaging saying mini-B ... why people do that I shall never know!
It's going back tomorrow, of course.

I am now almost certain that the other one, the 16GB, is a standard USB too, although it's way too expensive for a plain USB, so fingers crossed

Try use froogle, it's a product search engine from Google, there are a lot of mini-b USB flash drives offers by prices and brands.

But the picture for every single one of them clearly shows a standard USB connection and not mini-b buch like the OP has discovered with the ones he has already received

Yep, haven't seen the second one yet, but quite certain now it is not min-B.

Rather idiotic marketing trick to call a standard full size USB flash drive series 'mini-B" :wallbash: At least return postage is free with Amazon.

Bought all the kit for USB port in the new armrest, so won't bother anymore with attempting to locate a true mini-B drive ...
