My wife's brand new C270CDi Avantgarde had suffered some 'involuntary cosmetic conversion'. Someone who parked next to her slammed a car door into her side, and is now sporting a 10cm vertical crease in the rear off-side door-skin.

I just wonder if anyone had any experience of these 'mobile' dent repairers, e.g. Mend-a-dent, ChipsAway or Scratchrite type operators? And, can they be trusted with Mercedes bodywork?

And generally, any advice to offer on this subject?

Hi,
Sorry to hear this. There are some real morons out there. It really depends on how bad the crease is :( and the quality of the guy that does the work. But on the general advice side when I got my merc I learned to take a good two spaces in any carpark I use. It works a treat :D I admit you feel a bit selfish at first but after you pay to remove door dents a few times you will be parking length ways up 4 bays :D

Chipbuster

My brothers CLK had a similar dent and used a company called Chipbusters in Portsmouth, I think they are a nationwide franchise. They did the job on the spot by sliding a tool which looked like a pallet knife with a small foot (L Shape) down the outside of the window and just flicked the dent out and within seconds the kink had gone. It never even left a mark I was very amazed.

They should be able to do the job on the spot but it is quite expensive but worth it, If your concern is leaving your wifes car with one of the trainee CHAVS they may have working there(most companies have one these days) get a reputable moble dent repairer who cxan come to you.

My wife's Golf received similarly unwanted attentions for someone who banged a supermarket trolley into its flanks. Body shop wanted £500-plus for a repair, but one of the dent removal specialists (sorry, can't remember which one) did a superb repair for about £75. They'd definitely be my first port of call for any similar minor damage in future.
