Hi,
I have done alot of work to the sl60 i have had. Spent a fortune on the bits you dont see aswell as the bits you do, i've really enjoyed it and its spend many hours with me and many hours with a merc specialist. Ive had someone want to by my sl60 and made me a good offer and the price is the same as another sl60 I am tempted to buy with about 40k less mileage and a designo interior, but it wont be anyway near the same car in terms of work done and how good it will drive. ill have to spend another 5k on it to get it to the same level. Is it worth changing just for mileage?
Whats your thoughts?

If you have got the current car how you want it, why risk the change? Better the Devil you know and its not as if R129's are afraid of mileage.

Better the devil you know id say... whats the mileage on yours... are we talking 140 compared to 100 or 80 compared to 40? Makes a difference..

is this other one advertised somewhere?

My mileage is 94k. This on is 53k.
Yeah its just come up. I like the thought and its only a thought for now as i may think to live with the colour combo might be too much. Its bascially a straight swap money wise.

1998 Mercedes-Benz SL Class SL60 AMG 2DR AUTO [5] 6.0 | eBay

Never seen a red interior r129. Maybe there is a reason for it? I just like the idea like the 1950s gullwings silver and red interior.

They normally price cars pretty high... seems good value... id wait for some pictures before rushing to see it!

Red Interior may be strange if its designo?

Mines done 97K and the 100K barrier is only psychological... they will drive and feel the same.. That to be honest a 60K car will always be worth more than a 100K car... If the figures make sense it may be worth exploring for you..

I certainly wouldnt do it now that ive got my SL60 exactly how I want it.

Ive replaced alot of things, all suspension system. New interior on car with 30k only things that will bear mileage is engine gearbox and body. All of which is top notch.just a real head bugger to decide and id have to decide quick and could live to regret either way. The only thing like you said 100k miles start to think its getting on. Engine on what i have is strong though looks new inside crank.

If I were you I woud keep the one you know. Mine has done just over 95 and it is still a wonderful engine.

If you do decide to keep, and the guy is a serious buyer, point him in my direction :D

Its a friend, and i said i like the sounds of the 56k mile one and he knew what had been done and said he'd buy mine for same price.

How many miles/year are you going to do for goodness sake?

My R230 has done 81k miles in nine years and I expect it to go on and on for decades at the same rate of usage......I have had it from new and I would not change for a lower mileage car whose provenance I could not be absolutely certain of......stick with what you have if it is your head that rules......otherwise......if your brains are elsewhere who knows what sort of trouble you could get into !!!***???

By the sounds of it the change is not worth it, just to have a car that is below 100k miles, especially as you have said that it will take £5k to bring it up to the standards of yours.

Put £5k aside and this can be a contingency fund to look after things that go wrong... if they do.

Also, a little sticky tape over the mileage should ease the phycological pain caused by the climbing mileage, then sit back floor the accelerator and enjoy.

All this talk of SL60's is making me want an R129 again, the relative simplicity (compared to an R230) and four seats is very appealing as my two children can sit in the back.

The 5k is for things like the brake upgrade, eisenmann ss exhaust system, cats, stereo upgrade etc. Suspension refresh etc. Thats to say the rest is in the same condition.

Are you sure it's not the fettling that you miss?

Now your car is 'finished' there's a big hole in your life which can only be filled by starting again.

Unless you're intending to sell sometime soon, I wouldn't worry about the mileage. Mine's recently ticked over 130k, all the work done is just setting it up for the next 130.

thanks for the advise. I think ill keep mine.
I think although the red interior is interesting it might wear thin once the novelty wears off. I intend to always have a sl60 amg as my toy car so its not about investment, but enjoyment. You do psychologically feel the mileage if nothing else like jay says. I wonder how many 1960s cars with say 30k miles on the clock really have 30k on the clock.
Right off to Dclass then to do my door cards and dash in stiched leather.

nope, lol. I decided see above to keep mine. Hopefully then we get to see the pics of the interior it sounded different.

The selling dealer said it hurt his eyes to look at it! Hence why it was the price it was, i think they honestly thought it wouldnt shift so quick.

That said, nice history, same owner since 2002 and only one prior to that.. so good provenance.

It went for £14K. I would have bought it to sell on for that, cheap... Ive got a feeling it will hit the market again soon at 18-20K..

Whoever bought it, appreciate you bad mouthing me - its a good job most people know me in the industry.
