Missing e-mails from insurance companies.

Has anyone had an instance of not receiving an e-mail from an insurance company when they say they sent it?
My new insurer had a real struggle sending me my policy details. My previous insurer renewed automatically because I didn't manually cancel after the e-mail prompts it was due to be renewed. I never received those e-mails (and absolutely not lurking in junk folders etc and I haven't as far as I know missed any other e-mail from anybody ever). Has anyone experienced similar?

Had Aviva claiming they had tried to be in touch but never had.
