Missing Media Interface ?

Hi

I ordered a new 2012 C-Class Elegance with the following Audio 20 upgrade:

"Audio 20 with Media Interface and 6-disc CD changer. Media Interface allows connection and control of portable media devices (e.g. MP3 player, USB storage media). Cables included for aux-in, USB or iPod® connectivity" (Option 510).

The car has arrived with Audio 20 6-disc CD changer, but without Media Interface connector. I just wondered if anyone knows how this is possible, as Audio 20 and 6-disc CD changer without Media Interface is not an available option?

The dealer is in the process of trying to sort this out, but I just wondered if anyone could explain what went wrong. Could this be a genuine build error?

Must be a mistake at the factory. Standard Audio 20 in the 2012 C class comes with aux and usb input anyway, do you have them?

Yes, I have the standard USB and AUX input, just not the Media Interface connector.
So I agree, it looks like a mistake at the factory. It seems remarkable that could slip through Quality Control.
Hopefully the dealer can sort it.

The options for Audio-20 and Media Interface are seperate. In other markets they are not bundled as one like they are in the UK.

So, I suspect, someone failed to put option 518 on the order (probably not your dealer though)

It can be added afterwards though

PM me your VIN number, i'll look up what MB thinks your car has on it ..

Here we are :-

Some are obvious, some are less so and I have no idea what they mean (like 064). 802 means MY2012

As you can see, option 518 is not on the datacard and thus the car was built without Media Interface. I would suspect you are not the only one, and this is a mistake somewhere in the translation between UK cars and what is ordered ...

Let us know what the final resolution is ....

Many thanks for that info. What you have said makes perfect sense.

In fairness to the dealer, although they haven't provided an explanation, they have been keeping in touch and the part (I guess Option 518) should be in the UK in a few days time.

Hope you don't me asking, but are you able to attach a pdf of the data card for my records?

Anything to do with the Japanese Tsunami perhaps? You could perhaps envisage a period where, if component supply was a problem, such an option might be automatically deducted from a car's spec till supplies were resumed? This might be done far down the manufacturing path without the dealer's knowledge.
