On my C-Class (W204) I have just noticed I'm missing part of the rubber seal between the underside of the bonnet and the top of the offside headlight as shown in the pic below like this:

The other side is fine, like this:

Not sure how important this part is but I should really replace it shouldn't I? Where is the best place to get a replacement one from?

Thanks

Yes, you should replace it and the best place would be from your dealer parts dept

Thanks, I'll give them a call and try to explain what I'm after. I haven't really looked too closely at it and how it fits, hopefully I don't have to take the headlight out or anything major!

As it goes all round the headlamp I'm betting you have to remove the headlamp.

The part is approx £8 from MB

Ah right, thanks for the heads up. As you know the price I dont suppose you have a part number or know the proper name of it so I know what to ask for when I ring MB?

For some reason the name changes between Seal and Seal Frame depending on model year.

I'm sure the parts guy will know what you mean. Have your VIN handy..

Dealer had the part in stock. £7.50 :)
Now I've just got to fit it.....

I fitted the replacement seal today, and yes I had to remove the whole headlamp unit, which involves removing several plastic covers, the wheel arch lining, the front grill, and loosening one side of the front bumper! which I found out thanks to a very useful youtube video W204 Headlamp Removal DIY (Abridged 5:00 Min Edit) - YouTube

Couple of pics below:

The headlamp unit removed...

The old, broken seal taken off...

The new seal fitted and everything put back together...

All good, however, in the process I also noticed something else that is missing from my car. In the youtube vid at 1:50, the bracket that he removes that goes behind the middle of the front grille. Not sure what purpose it serves but I don't have one. Should I make another trip back to my MB dealer parts dept?

Done. For info the part in question was called a Stay and it cost £5.88 including the bolt and washer :)

mine cost me £14 trade price from the stealership! mines a much older car tho...
