Missing washers?

Hi all, in the Russek manual for my w210 it describes checking the endfloat on the front wheel bearings as being correct when you can turn the thrust washer behind the bearing by pushing it with a screwdriver. I couldn't help noticing after taking the dust covers off that there aren't any washers there . Looking at the diagram from the parts website it doesn't show a washer anywhere



has my car been the victim of MB cost cutting?
