Note that the BBC article fails to mention the type of fuel the car uses. When*VW diesel cars*were in the spotlight, diesel was demonised. If this time diesel is not mentioned, maybe we can assume it doesn't use diesel, but perhaps it's a hybrid car or petrol possibly? Why do they omit mentioning the fuel type used?

Mitsubishi Motors admits manipulating fuel efficiency tests, shares tumble - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

It involves fuel consumption tests and thus indirectly CO2 rather than pollutants such as particulates and Nox. Unlike Europe the vast majority of passenger cars are petrol or petrol -hybrid. The vehicles involved are micro city cars with tiny 600 cc 3 cylinder PETROL engines and are not sold in European markets AFAIK Cars like the Mitsubishi eK and Nissan Dayz.
