Does look a little pricey, mind you a mint MK1 Lotus cortina will set you back in excess of £30K these days...

You'd think for the money they're expecting that they could have made a little more effort with the presentation! Location, location, location!

Sheesh

And the Cortina was a genuine car. That Escort is a bitza.

Looks a bit iffy to me :dk: Lotus Escort MK1 a very rare animal indeed no shots of engine or homologation plate very suspicious. £65k I'd be surprised but you never know with some of these historic rally car collectors :dk:

Edit: Just realised there was a video so now seen engine but still can't see any homologation plate to say vehicle is "Number x of 200"

You can buy far more car and far more performance for far less money.

Why spend £65k on a car when most people will look at it and think that you are driving round in an old Mk1 Escort worth about a grand ??

Takes me back to the mid 80's when you could pick up MK 1's/2's, Stags etc for peanuts. I was only 11 in 1985 but remember my mates brother's pals having what seemed a different motor every week! Great days!

Not sure what medication they are on but I'd like some too!

The actual model was Ford Escort Twin Cam - didn't carry the word "Lotus". Over 1200 were made, so no idea what the 200 the dealer mentions relates to.

As for £65k - cloud cuckoo land. Last one I saw (only a couple of years back) was mid teens.

And there was me thinking it was a typo -= one zero too many.

"Coat please!"

Perhaps the location was chosen carefully to appeal to the type of person who would be likely to spend £65K on that ... item! ;)

As with any zero-mileage or thereabouts collectable car like this, you can pretty much set whatever price you like.

And it only needs one buyer who really wants the very best to pay up.

I have no idea on Escort values - but anyone seen a better one for less? ;)

In fairness to the seller, the car looks to be in absolutely brand new condition throughout - pretty thorough and clear video too showing inside/outside/engine bay/underneath etc. At least they're making some effort here :)

Will

That's how I remembered them being named. Did they have rectangular headlights?

Something else I've remembered - how much I detest Buddy Holly.

square (and useless!) attached a real one

As has been said, this Escort is just a Twin cam, I'm sure it was never named a Lotus though it had a lotus sourced engine. I'd far rather have a Lotus Cortina and lots of spare cash instead of this Escort, but I'm not really a fan of fast Fords.

An ex- Jean Todt works car , fully restored has been estimated at 70 -90k at auction . Project mki escort twin cams seem to be around the 25k mark. Cant imagine even a keen , wealthy Ford fan would pay 65k for this one unless it was well documented as a genuine original build . Ford websites state that 883 of these were built. :p. There are other mk1 twin cams on the net for 45k.

Hi,
Thats an incredible price for a MK1 Escort,
Had a quick Google and found this,
SUPER CONDITION FORD MK1 AVO MEXICO RALLY CAR. For Sale (1972) on Car And Classic UK
If Twin Cams and Mexico's are going for that much, how much would the rarer RS1600 BDA or even MKII RS1800 be worth?

Did someone say that it effectively looks like just any old MK1 Escort, worth approx, £1000, please, please, tell me where? any model MK1 Escort remotely near this condition is mega bucks, a rusty bare shell c/w logbook with very little else is a £1000.

since its a dealer selling i wonder what he paid for it,10k tops
