Sorry, not a Merc related question, but my mother has a Mk4 Golf 1.6 16v which has developed a fault. Basically it's lacking in power and acceleration and requires flooring to really go anywhere. Anyone have any ideas that immediately spring to mind - my hunch is something like a MAF.

Coil pack (include checking the earth strap)? I know it's an issue on the Audi A2 1.6FSI

any lights popd up on dash?
it shoul go into limp mode revs stop at 4000revs if coil faulty
i have the r32 that wat happend to mine m8

I would suggest getting it on VAG COM which should throw up the faults but they are indeed prone to coil pack issues.

Thanks for the replies - trying to find a reputable Indie in the Wiltshire area who can check for fault codes. MAF/ HT Leads/ Coil Packs all sound like possible causes though.

It's not on your door step I know, but I can recommend Stealth Racing in Southam, Warwickshire.

Not sure where you are but the top 2 in your area are :

DG Autotech Top class outfit can be found HERE

Or AUDIVW Centre can be found HERE

I have heard excellent reports about both, hope that helps.

are they seperate coils?
pop them out 1 by 1 til you find the coil that faulty
most small garages will have a fault reader

pretty much every man and his dog has a VAG COM these days and there are plenty of VW indies about so you shouldnt have an issue.
Does sound like a MAF type issue though.

Not least of all because ignition problems tend to manifest themselves at larger throttle openings.

And don't disconnect the coils except on the low tension side.
