Thanks in advance for reading to my dribble but ive searched the forum for ages with no joy

I have a 2010 ML 300 sport, which is sat on 20 inch wheels, tyres are 265/45 r20.

I am looking to utilize some spate 16 inch wheels which i had on my old W211 {hopefully pictures attached}. the reason for this is so i can get some proper ATV tyres like the Yokohama Geolander's on.

the ones i had found on the web would then be 245/70 r16, now i could be completely wrong but i would like help on the following

offset of 16 " is 38 - no idea of 20" standards
bolt holes are 112 mm on 16" again no idea of standard ones

please help:dk::dk::dk::dk::dk::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Will 16" wheels clear your brake calipers?

My thoughts too. I would test fit a wheel without tyres before spending any money.

In this world of increasingly large wheels, 16 inch wheels may look "unusual" on a car as large as an ML.

Finally, check to make sure the load rating of the tyres (and wheels) us up to scratch for such a heavy vehicle.

The ML has ET56 so 38 will stick out.

So back to the drawing board!!!!!!

I suppose my real aim is a set of tyres that Look and will work well in snow etc.

Without needing a mortguage

Winter tyres is the answer or some big tyres like you say.

Test fit them anyway. You might find that as the 16" wheels are narrower than the 20" ones, the offset will be negated.

The main issue is whether they clear the brakes.

Make sure you check 16" load rating. ML is heavier than E.

Quick update, Whoops calipers are too big never mind the load rating which i am also sure would have turned them into 50p pieces in days.

need some chunky looking tyres !! any suggestions pls??

Looks like 17" is the smallest you can go.

Mercedes M Class W164 alloys | Alloy Wheels Direct Ltd

A very quick search turns up these ML W163 Alloy Wheels AND TYRES 4 DUNLOP TYRE 275/55/R17 M+S 275-55-R17 109V | eBay

We run 20-inch Continental winter tyres on the ML63 but they were £1200 for a set, so pricey, but they genuinely provide great control in snow. Sadly we can't fit wheels smaller than 19-inch (also for brake clearance), but 17-inch wheels are probably ideal for an ML.

You could get some 17 inch wheels from an ML SE and pop some new premium winter tyres on them, possibly for less than £800 - I think the last set of Continental M&S tyres I bought in 17-inch fitment were less than £600 (fitted all year round on our ML270), and the SE wheels could probably be had for £200 or so.

Have a look at MYTYRES for a winter wheel/tyre package, I just bought a set of wheels/tyres for the RX for £800.......and that's with top test winning Nokian tyres.
