ML Fuel computer readout

hi all on our 2003 ML 270CDi when i go to check the range, it always reads some silly figure, like when quarter full it says we have over 350 miles of range left. (average shows 30mpg at this point)

is this a known problem or feature?

the country is set correctly and the other functions seem accurate

Does it vary depending on how you drive the car? Mine seems to go up and down all the time, if you were driving at a steady 60mph then I'd expect it to go up. Drive it cold or around town and mine goes right down.

Whenever I fill up it says 750 miles, yet I never seem to get much over 500 miles from a tank.

Richard is right, it depends on the average that you are doing at the time you ask it the question. it will vary town or country driving obviously.

Funny enough mine says 750 miles when filled up, it must be the default reading. After a few miles it soon settles down.
