hi help needed
I know strange noise threads aint much fun or interesting, but you never know someone might know. its a weird kind of dry mech sound from passenger footwell thats as near as i can locate it.cant hear it from outside or under the bonnet but that could be its masked by engine noise!. sort of gets less noticeable when driving or engine gets warm, could it be a dry bearing somewere?

The noise you hear is from the cooling fan within the ecu compartment (under the bonnet) which draws its air from the passenger footwell, this fan is well known for eventually suffering from dry bearings and usually gives off a squealing sort of sound, which is temperature dependant on when it becomes noisy. The fan continues to run for a few minutes after engine shut down by design. It is easy to replace, just remove the fuse cover and the main cover to expose the ecu and the fan is at the bottom of the compartment.

The new fans have modified bearings.

It was some years back that i renewed mine but i think the part was circa £100.. ?

The fan (blower) is item #13..........

Would it be possible to modify and use a computer cooling fan?

KenM

I doubt it, the original fan comes in a housing shaped a bit like a hairdryer gun, any effort to modify wouldnt be worth it imo.
