ML Grill Star

Just had a look at a ML63 front grill, and the mesh that surrounds the star it is a mesh, while on my ML the mesh has a backing on it.
I presume that is to get more air into the radiator on the AMG
Any other reasons anyone can think of?

That's interesting.
I've been contemplating making a radiator blind for my 270CDi ML W163, is the backing plate on your 320 removable, or is it welded onto the front cross bars from the star?
I know the W163 & W164 are very different, but I'm prepared to get one & do some engineering on it if it's a separate item.

Looks like its an integral part of the badge, and cant be removed
