Last week I had 3 warning message come up on the display of my ML.

The messages were:

1.Brake lamp, left.
2.Brake lamp left , backup bulb on.
3.Brake lamp right , backup bulb on.

These all came on at the same time, stayed on for the rest of my journey, next time I started the car the messages had reset.

The a few days ago it happened again, and yesterday again, this time the messages do not reset.

Today I have changed both left and right brake bulbs, but warning messages have stayed on.

Checked in handbook to check fuse, but cannot find which fuse to check, the handbook just shows the position of the fuse boxes, and the inside of the covers have no fuse listing.

Any ideas as to which fuse to try, or any other ideas.

Brake Light Problem

Help me please somebody, anybody!

I have the same problem as I see Wobbly had a couple of years ago.

Error message on display as follows:-
1.Brake lamp, left.
2.Brake lamp left , backup bulb on.
3.Brake lamp right , backup bulb on.

Any thoughts anyone?

(Car is ML320 CDI SE 2006)

Known fault - you need 2 x Repair Kits MA164 826 00 07 £9.60 each

I dont know what the repair kit is, but I know what cure my problem.

It was the bulb holders spring contacts, where the bulb connects to, they needed a clean with some emery cloth.

Simple :p

Fault has never returned.

Contact corrosion is the problem, but cleaning does not always work so Mercedes produced this kit. Only takes one Scotchlok to fit.

Out of interest, what do these repair kits consist of, and how do the stop corrosion of the electrical contacts.

A new bulb socket isolated from the metal backing of the light, with an earth lead that goes to the nearest earthing post.

Brake Lamp left , Back up -bulb on !

I've the same problem and your decision was great! Thank you guys!

Okay, same problem but fixed without buying the kitx2, which is purely a different bulb holder and a pair of wires !!.

*) The brake light is the topmost light
*) For both sets of lights take the bulb and holder out
*) Using a TPT (thin pointy thing) scratch away on the mounting in the car where the bulb holder goes into. You should be able to work out the approximate area where the lugs locate but if you get in the car with a torch you can get your head close and see properly.
*) On mine on the left hand side only and on the positive feed there was a 2mm diameter black pit that had arced previously and caused the resistance on the circuit to go up throwing the error and putting the lights into standby mode. Scratch that black crap off, do the same on the bulb mount itself and bend the lugs out a little further to there is more pressure onto the mount.
*) Resit the bulb into the mount and mount into the car
*) TURN THE IGNITION OFF before testing, remove the key and re-insert. This took me a while to figure out but the safe circuit only resets after ignition off !

Tada - no more lights......just a grumpy wife that I've been playing with the car !

help

I've just done the repair with the MB kit and the error still comes up that both brake lights out and backup bulbs are on.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
