I had a look at my boost pipe that is linked to the inlet manifold.

I checked it to see if there was any splits, I have noticed where it joins the inlet manifold the connection is not flush.

Should it be? I have attached a picture.

Thanks

Yes it should.

Remove the engine cover and see if you can re-attch it. If you can't it is likely that the pipe will need replacing.

Cheers BlackC55, do I need to release any metal clips? As I tried moving it with my hand when I saw it and it didn't move. It Could be jammed.

Could this explain any whooshing noise I get or would that be seperate?

Thanks again!

If you remove the engine cover you will see that metal clip needs to be loosened. loosen that and the try to slip the pipe back on and tighten the clip back up. If you cant slip it back on then as Olly suggested, a new pipe is needed.

Cheers momomo

I took off the spring clip and the pipe came out easily and there was a lot of crud/ black precipitate. I cleaned it out and was happy.

I went to re-install the pipe and it went in with a tiny gap on the left side, very small, looks flush. I then put the spring clip back on and the covers and as you do I wanted to make sure the car was working fine. I turned the car on and then hit the accelerator, I then go and check the pipe. I find that the pipe has come out and the pipe looks like above.

Does the pipe require 2 spring clips? The clip runs down the left side of the pipe. Would it make any difference if I put the clip on the other side?

Or do I require a new pipe? This would be a pain as the jubilee clip on the other end is difficult to get to i.e. restricted space.

To begin with no covers on.

Has anyone got any ideas what my next course of action should be? I was thinking if I could make the seal tighter it could work and could mean I save money on not having to buy a new pipe. I noticed that as soon as I hit the accelerator I watched the pipe pope out at around 2000 revs.

Should I clean the EGR? If so, where is it located? As I do have some smoke on kick down. I know the smoke is common on diesel cars.

Smoke on kickdown is normal, as long as its not excessive or doing it all the time its nothing to worry about.

If the clip was secured properly and the pipe still keeps popping off i think a new pipe is in order. I dont think securing the pipe on there any tighter will help unfortunately, as it will surely pop off again.

A new pipe shouldnt be too much.

Apart from this issue is the engine running fine, as in its not doing anything unusual? Economy is the same, power is still there etc etc

Thanks for the reply momomo.

Yeah, well I think its all fine.

Should I change the spring clip as well? Another issue I have is that I looked at the other end and the jubilee clip is at such an angle that it will be harder than usual to get it off. Do you know if the jubilee will come with the new pipe?

I know it may be at an angle but it is do-able. If the clip isnt broken then i wouldnt replace it but as they dont cost anything really, even from dealers, i would replace it. Not sure if they will come with the new pipe.

Get a new pipe and clip. They are not that expensive then you will know it will be 100%

Is it normal for this pipe to come loose? Or could this be a clue that there is an issue with the inlet manifold or the EGR?

Cheers BlackC55!!
