Hello

Up this morning loaded the car up for a trip to the zoo (only about 1 mile away) and all three lghts on the lft hand side of dash board on.

Looked in manual and it says something about lock wheel one way to the other to clear one of them...no luck

Also mentioned that the voltage of the car is less than 10v and that could cause this?

Any idea what this is or if I can check it? seems odd that all three have come on.

Cars running as normal, driving and stopping fine?

Thanks in advance

Brake switch? Or battery?

Was brake light switch on wifes old Ml less than £10 from dealer, geezer at the front desk at the dealer told me switch was £30 then fault needed clearing, so back home rung up same dealer stores ordered part and fitted it myself very easy:) no need to clear fault.
Iirc she lost traction, cruise and something else as well

Hello thanks for that

Where is the brake switch? would that mean all three lights? cruise worked as tried that on way back...

thanks though

Yep it's very likely the switch. Dealer did ours, but IIRC it's accessed from the footwell, near the pedal. I could easily be wrong though!!

Remove panel under dash.

The switch is at the top of the brake pedal, removed by pushing and turning through 90 degrees, and then remove wires.

Easy in 10 minutes.

Thanks all,

Will this effect all three lights?

Is it ok to drive until I get the part?

PS (anyone have the part number by chance? ML350 W163)

Thanks again all :)

Hi

If the switch is the same as the 210, 202 it has 4 pins on it, one circuit is for brake lamps and the other circuit is for switching off the cruise etc. This is why sometimes when it is faulty the brake lamps still work. You can open the switch and have a wee nosey inside if your that way inlined before you pay for a new one. I was given a faulty one to open and investigate for fun but cant recall getting it back together properly, the contact points just needed cleaning though.

Good Luck

When I had my w163, I had this problem.

I changed the brake light switch, unfortunatley this didnt cure it.

It turned out, that I had a poor electrical connection to the ABS unit, this is near the radiator, and is prone to getting wet, and affecting the connections.

After cleaning the connections, never had the problem again.

The dealer said we were OK to continue driving ours ahead of the appointment to get it fixed.

IIRC our car was 11 months old when the switch was replaced.

Sorry for sounding sceptical but I guess this 'brake switch' has connections to all the lights on my dash that are glowing...

(BAS ESP) (ETS) (ABS)

It does seem odd how all three are in.

Thanks all for the help so far :)

All three do indeed light up with the brake switch failure.

Hello

Took the lower panel under the steering wheel off, could not unplug the on board diagnostic thing so had to work round the plastic panel hanging down.

Looked up towards brake pedal and see no switches?

Switches and things seem to be attached to steering column and park brake but not main brake?

Do you know what I'm meant to me looking for?

Is it a relay type thing?

thanks in adavance..again.

Hi

I have changed them on 202,210 and 163(270cdi) too but if you check the EPC for the ML350 it doesnt list one whereas it lists for all other ML's from 163 range.
Hope it is just a glitch in the EPC but i would hate to be telling the OP to change a swich that he doesnt have.

Fingers crossed.

Hi

It is listed for every other ML from the ML230 through ML420cdi right up to the ML55 but not the ML350.

Seems strange though.

some other models have it as part of the servo unit so I hope this one doesnt, i doubt it...
