I was in shop at work today and they had a repair manual for the ML W163 and a list of which models it covered, it had listed an ML230 Petrol, I didn't know there ever was one. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Lol. They did also have the ML320 listed, the ML230 was listed as manual option as well. Strange. Saying that they did the old E class in 220 diesel non turbo on main land Europe, that was never offered here and must have been stupidly slow.

I've seen on on flea bay LHD Manual

Basic as a basic thing in basic vile, and worse doubt if it could drag its self up a speed bump.

:)

I'm off to France to visit family in August, I will look at every single ML until I spot my first ever ML230, ah but maybe if someone has it they will de-badge it

Ok so need to look out for a ML230 Kompressor, I know now I haven't ever seen one abroad as would have noticed the Kompressor badge.

The ML400Cdi would have been a nice one in the UK :)

again a few of these for sale but LHD....

Thay did an S400CDI over seas as well on the old model if I remember right. Oh and on the old big slab sided S class they did a S350TD that was never over here.

There's so many models in europe the UK never had...

My dad would love his E320Cdi Estate even more if he could have the 4matic option...

Yeah that's another thing why did we never get 4 matic option, my Mum would prefer it as well.

4 matic was never introduced or developed for RHD as they simply decided there would be a lack of demand....

The ML230 will be grossly underpowered without a supercharger.

I had a look on the net yesterday, the ML230 was non supercarged with a 150bhp engine, that would be slow, I found the ML270CDI slow, that would be even slower.

I think the ML270 is ok for a barge? make a nice noise also.

Horses for courses I guess. If I had one I would have remapped it anyway by now. I've even considered that on mine and a supercharger but its a bit silly really.

Then I've considered an ML55 just for the hell of it, but mines in great condition and I have it how I like it (bar bigger wheels)

I agree it's down to personal choice and for me I have never found diesels to sound good, when I kicked down on the 270 all I heard was the engine rattle like most diesels. I much prefer the sound of a V6 or a V8 even better.

It wouldn't be the lack of power that would make the 230 slow - it would be the lack of torque. The ML270 has a smidgen more of the former, and a fair bit more of the later.

I'm often surprised by the turn of pace the ML270 - maybe I just have low standards!! :D
