First of all apologies if there is a better place to ask this, I had a look around and there doesn't seem to a a M section, so posted this here.

Noticed a lot of ML270's hitting sub 2k pricing.

Most are 150k-199k

What are the main issues with a high mileage ML?

Some seem to have been a complete disaster when new, but I perhaps foolishly am assuming a lot of these would have been sorted to achieve 180k miles?

I wouldn’t hesitate to have another one.

Injectors can leak (like other older diesels) and the ball joints get a hard time (like other heavy SUVs). There’s probably some other stuff too, but all cars at close to 200k miles will be in the same boat, as by then the maintenance is what matters rather than build quality issues. Buy a good one and you’ll love it.

I looked at a few recently and like with most cars of that age you have to tread carefully. Many rusty examples about and some with very rough interiors, that the local car wash team can’t cover up. Make sure you check the MOT history and more recent service history, as for the low price you’ll be paying you don’t want to be spending another £500 to “get it right”. I ended up buying a Lexus RX300 instead. For me it looks fresher, is a nicer place to sit in, drives better from a comfort perspective and is better put together. Like the ML there are a few lemons out there so you still have to do your homework.

Main issues I can think of;
Black death leaking injectors, Bad MAFs, ABS lights on, Rust, Fuel line O-rings
Mine is on 175k now and I wouldn't sell it, once the niggles are sorted and you've a fairly rust free example they're great jeeps.

Buy a 500 and don't worry about the engine; it won't need sorting. The fuel consumption may be an issue, though...
