ML270 Cracked Injector

Hi Everyone

I have just finished replacing all of the injector seals and bolts on my ML270 to solve the "black death", and I noticed a crack in one of the injectors, about an inch from the bottom. This was injector number 4, and was the cause of the black death. It needed a slide hammer to get it out as it was properly welded in!

I obviously realise that this injector needs to be replaced, but what happened is this :
After cleaning all the injectors up, I replaced them all back in and clamped them down, so I could get the car home from the workshop. As the revs got to about 2500, the car cut out and the EPC warning light came on. It restarted no problems, and I got home OK, keeping the revs under 2500. Opening the bonnet again, I noticed a pool of diesel around the cracked injector, and the car will now not start.

Am I right in thinking that the cracked injector will be squirting diesel upwards, and the black death carbon welding it in before was stopping the diesel leakage upwards?
When I replace this cracked injector, should everything be OK again?

I'm just hoping I've not done any fatal damage!

I believe cracked nozzle holder (I assume you are talking about that) is enough to cause all your troubles now. Cap/nozzle holder can be bought separately (ask local bosch service!), but because you needed to use good old hammering in order to remove injector, it may have got some more damage too. But spare part shouldnät be very expensive so worth to try first! And again remember new bolt and copper seal...

I've ordered a reconditioned one from a breakers off ebay, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the help!
