ML270 EGR Woes?

Hello all, our Ml 270cdi has been going into intermittent limp mode for the last week or so, either full on power, or gutless acceleration, no kick down/low on power etc. I've read the codes with my icarsoft scanner and I've got - "P1403-008- Exhaust Gas Recirculation open circuit" So, does this this mean the egr valve itself is kaput? Or does the "open circuit" mean there's a problem within the wiring somewhere? Thanks everyone

Could be a sticky EGR valve. I would at least clean it out before thinking about replacing it.

Thanks for your swift reply bob, I took it off and cleaned it in may this year when I did the inlet manifold/swirl flap/servo motor mod, but you never know there could still be a bit of crud lurking in there somewhere!
