Ml270 full tank mileage?

Fuel Consumption

OK, some accurate figures at last.

Have just used my first tank of fuel since cleaning the EGR and manifold with the Wynn's system.

Daily drive 10.09l/100 = 26mpg

Towing caravan 14.5/100 = 19.6mpg

Next job, tackle the manifold problem. Oil leaking.

The other morning I decided to check tyre pressures. None of the tyres were the correct pressure. So I put them all at 30 psi and it seems the fuel level has stayed stable (for now)
I will report back when I'm down to 1/2 tank

Ok bit more of an update.

Just had a good poke around engine paying attention to egr area as I want to work on this soon and noticed this.......

As you can see where my thumb is there is a slight split in the hose. Oil comes out when you mess with it and it seems to be the cause of the oily mess in the engine bay.

Is the oil bein there bad?

Is it expensive to replace?

Could this be the cause of limp mode/ poor mpg

You would be losing turbo pressure that will effect fuel consumption.

A new hose is not expensive.

If you think that little bit of oil is bad, just wait till you take of the hose and see inside?

Lots of cleaning to do.

The oil is from the PCv and essential for the lubrication of the inlet valve seats, etc.

I think I'll bodge it temporarily till I have a day off work to order the part.
A lot of black electrical tape is on the cards I think

I replaced the same hose on mine recently, it cost about £35.

Was yours split as well?
Did you notice any difference?

No, mine wasnt split, the metal 'ears' part of the hose that the large circlip lock into position had worn away resulting in the pipe repeatably blowing off from the egr.

Priced up the pipe at mb £35+vat. I also got a copy of the diagram of the induction system from them so that should help with my strip down and clean of that part of the engine.

And the car has done 125 miles on half a tank. So between 3/4 and 1/2 the car has doubled the range. I haven't changed my driving style or road routes so it's quite strange!?

Final mileage was 272 miles from a full tank.

12.5 gallons over that mileage works out at 22mpg (roughly)

All town driving so it doesn't seem so bad?

I get around 500, but my driving is combined.

Fitted a new thermostat last week and have managed to use enough fuel to do another fuel calculation.

The vehicle was continually running at about 60degrees, now running at 87degrees.

First tank averaged out at 7.5l/100, about 37mpg, mainly country driving at an average speed of 80kph.

Am hoping to fix the manifold problem and service the auto trans this coming week. (New manifold)
