Have booked ml into local indie to get my leaking alternator looked at.
Whilst in I've asked them to check my manifold as the car feels sluggish, kicks out black smoke on acceleration and has oil down the side of the block.

Does anyone know how much I should be paying for a direct replacent? I don't think my indie is too keen to do the modification

Jay, a new manifold is about £ 400 and 4 or 5 hours to fit, if I remember correctly. Two swirl flaps had dropped out of mine, and after this replacement the car has run faultlessly and flies again. 50 plus mpg on long runs too.
I've also done the shunt so it stays clean.
I have the old manifold which could be reused after blanking the holes.

Thanks Richie.

I've priced up a manifold from gsf for around £230. Hopefully my indie can fit it in 4-5 hours!!

So today SPR autos in Stockport checked over my car. Alternator is fine, no signs of leaks. They tested the whole system under pressure and it was leak free. They believe it may be the water pump seal, as when it cools down there may be a slight separation between pump and engine. Bearing sounds fine according to them so I can deal with toppin up every so often.

Manifold will need replacing at some point.

However, I have noticed a leak from what I presume is an overflow pipe from the bulk head near passenger wheel. It's quite substantial. Anything to worry about??

On the plus side had the air con regassed and all is good on the inside!

From your description, it sounds like the water is coming from the air con evaporator drain tube ..........dont worry, its normal, it just means your air con is working well.

Thanks for that. The water in expansion tank was slightly over max when hot. Will it continue to leak from this tube?

Dont worry about being a bit over the max mark, even if it was a LOT over any excess would just push out of the overflow pipe and the level would correct itself.

The water from the air con evaporator only appears while the ac is on and working, you will generate more water on a hotter day than a cooler day as the evaporator works harder to cool the air usually accompanied by a puddle of water left behind everytime you move off
