ML270 Security Box Key

Would anyone have any idea where or even whether I can purchase a spare key for the security box under the drivers seat of my ML270. I have recently purchased the vehicle and it came without that key, I have tried to contact the previous owner without success and have been to my local Merc dealer who says that I would not be able to get one of these keys, I find that hard to believe and wondered if anyone else has this problem?

Is it locked? You can buy a new lock from the main dealer.

Yes you break the lock and replace it... they dont sell the keys by themselves.

+1 that's what we did too when we had an ML. Although ours was unlocked when we bought it so we just had to swap the lock over...

looks like I will need to drill out the barrel and replace the whole unit, my local Merc dealer could have probably given me the same info but chose not too.
I will let you know Bobby D if there is anything interesting inside such as a shiny new key!!!!
