ML430 starting issue

Hi all,

i have searched the forum to try and find an answer before i post, however i couldnt find anything that fitted my problem.

Long and short of it is that My ML430 was driving fine, parked it up Sunday night and Monday it wouldnt start.

it will crank but just wont fire, have tried it after a day or so but still no good.
Checked the fuel pump relay and fuse, these arent the problem.
Fuel pump doesnt appear to be working though, but after reading a few threads and different things it sounds like the fuel pump doesnt work if the crank sensor isnt working, Is that correct ??
Crank sensor would be a lot cheaper to fix than fuel pump but dont want to fix something for no reason!!

Any info or advise would be great.

Get the codes read rather than guessing.

Don't need a STAR to get fault codes , when my CPS went , it was diagnosed with a generic reader. Any local garage will have one.

Thanks for the reply.
I should have mentioned that i had used a code reader and had got codes for an oxygen sensor, misfires on 3 different cylinders, fuel pump Nd air flow sensor.

As it happens i managed to get a crank sensor really cheap and fitted it without issue today.
Car now starts and runs without issue.
