Hi All,
My names Robert and have owned my ML for around 5 months. In all this time its never missed a beat but recently has been dropping down to 7/6 cylinders, its becoming more regular now. I've replaced the Air Flow Meter, had it Serviced and the problem only gets worse. I really like this car and dont want to sell it so has anyone got any ideas on a fix?
Thanks in advance.

Hello

Welcome also from another ML owner, Mine only ever runs on 6 cylinders and seems fine :)

Seriously though have you had it plugged in to a Star machine to have any fault codes read?

I'm not technical so hopefully someone will be here soon to help.

I had a problem with my previous ml, misfiring.
One of the coil packs had broken down, easy replaced once diagnosed.

Hi,
Yes i've had the codes read, but they all related to the airflow meter, which of course have all cleared now, i'm really stumped with this one, i can usually find someone to fix my cars!!

Hi Wobbly,
We,ve tried swappind coil packs as well, but it still happens, we,ve also pressure tested the relevant bits as well

Hello

Was the replacement part a genuine Merc one rather than a e-bay special? also is there an independant garage near you or did you take it to Merc to have the codes read?

I've tried the Ebay special and then a brand new genuine Bosch one which was fitted this morning. I took the car to a local garage i use, really because i've been using him for years, he looks after the LPG system for me ( which does exactly the same as the petrol )

I'll post some pics of my car at the end of the week, i've got some AMG arches to fit soon as well, its gorgeous!!! Unfortunately the car was a Fiance Reposession so i dont know much about the history of it though

I changed the plug leads on mine due to a misfire at tickover 3 of the 16 had much higher resistance than the old ones, new leads cured the prob.

I had the same problem on my E55, lumpy idle which gradually got worse, diagnosed as a degenerating plug lead. Just changed that lead and problem sorted. Also had the same problem on an E240 previously.
