ML55 AMG or ML 500?

Hi guys,

I'm new here, so hello!

Planning to get a ML for family use and I'm divided between the ML55 AMG 2001 and ML500 2003.

What would you recommend please between them two? Also, as I'm new in the Merc world, what should I look after in terms of problems when buying a ML? Any common faults, any other know problems / symptoms?

Any additional information would be highly appreciated.

Both will be lovely. If you get the 500 you'll be left wondering whether you should have gone for the 55 for ever more.

I like MLs a lot. Especially MLs with big thumping AMG engines

I had a 2000 W163 ML500.

Great engine, yes its thirsty its a V8, expect 15 around town, perhaps 22 on a run.

Suspension is very "crashy" though, especially over speed bumps. the w164 and the w166 are much more refined.

2003 is near the end of the W163, the W164 came in at the end of 2004 i believe.

The ML55 has the spare wheel in the boot, and therefore there is no 7 seat option, if you need that.
