My local (non merc specialist) mechanic thinks my timing chain needs replacing. Has anyone had this done and can anyone recommend a garage for the job.

Where is your location so an local indy can be recommended?
Never heard of a 55k engine needing a new timing chain on here before.

I'm in London. The car has 93k on the clock. Mechanic said he used a in ear device to listen to the engine and turned off other belts and it was coming from the timing chain area. Said it would need a timing chain 'kit' and said its 4 days work! I would obviously like a Mercedes specialist who has done this before to open it up but not main dealer ;o) Willing to travel to get it right as I have spent a bit already getting this car nice.

Thanks

It's really not 4 days work. You could always pop in and I'll have a listen myself.
Used to have an ML55 , it was a lovely old car!

Ok thanks all. Will give you (Wayne Gates) a call in the week
