does anyone have any ideas what is causing this running lean on bank 1 and 2 on my w164 ml63
the codes don't pinpoint the problem and i don't want to just start swapping out parts till it fixes the issue
it was doing this on bank 1 only then i swapped the maf sensors around and now i have it on bank 1 and 2
any help please

one of the codes is p2187 $07E8 system to lean at idle bank 1

If you do a Google search on Mercedes P2187 you will get quite a few suggestions online. As you surmised from the fault code they appear to be mixture related fault codes. There are 2 options- either the sensors that monitor air input and mixture strength are faulty-- likely candidates would be the MAFF sensors or perhaps the exhaust LAMBDA sensors or you may have some sort of inlet manifold leak [ this would be after any MAFF sensors on the inlet line] These could be trivial---- a flexible pipe disconnected or leaking - or something more serious like a cracked manifold- the inlet manifolds can be quite complex with lots of internal flaps to alter the lengths of the induction path. These are activated by external solenoids but the shafts pass thro seals to the internal flaps. If a detailed visual inspection reveals nothing then its probably best left to a specialist to check out as repairs may be expensive.

One trick is to spray around any suspect area with some form of solvent cleaner as when the solvent gets drawn into the manifold through the leak the engine note will change- but again you got to know what you are doing to avoid the car going up in flames

An air leak, lambda sensor fault etc etc.

Neds a Star to find the fault.

i did i live test with a maxiscan if anyone can understand it here are the photos

It needs a Star. Codes are only half the info.

ok then i will go and get it plugged into star tomorrow or when the engine light comes back on as i have erased the code for now
the last time the never told me much just that it was most likely a o2 sensor

A computer diagnostic is only half the job, most lean faults tend to be a air leak after the air mass sensors.

It will need visual checks on top of diagnostics.

but what i did notice is that on photo 4 it says
shrtftb1s2 % n/a
shrtftb2s2 % 99.2
does this mean that bank 1 sensor 2 is not working
as the other one is reading 99.2

Live data needs to be accessed, the secondary lambda sensors tend to monitor catalyst performance so wouldn't adjust fueling.

right i have been and had my car plugged into star
and it has come up with an air leak fault with the MAF sensors so i have replaced both sensors with brand new ones from mercedes this has not fixed the problem
so now been back to a specialist and they have said camshaft issues causing both banks to run lean
now has anyone heard of this problem on the 63amg engine as i was told it is a common problem mainly with the camshaft adjusters yet there is 4 camshafts 2 on each side so how can they all be faulty

i would like to know as this is going to be one really expensive job if it is right its just i have not heard of this before

ok i stripped out my air intake today and it seems my crankcase breather pipe is disintegrating into small pieces so i am hoping that this is what has caused my lean codes
i will be ordering a new one tomorrow along with intake gaskets as these don't look to great either so fingers crossed this fixes my problem

not sure the crankcase breather would be causing lean issues if honest.
