Dear All

I've got a C200K W203 52-plate with standard audio 10 and a CD changer in the glove box - I've had the car since Oct 02 - there has been no problems with the audio system until yesterday!!!

Driving along listening to the radio - the radio cuts out as if there was a short circuit. After 30 seconds later it came back again! this happened 5 times within 10 minutes. :(

At first I thought that it was the radio station, so I switched stations - it still happened!! :( :(

I then switched over to CD and guess what, it happened on that too

All of a sudden the CD changer lost all power and I was left with radio/tape facilities only!!

I stopped at cafe and started engine - the CD cahnger came back to life!!! :D Only to die again after a short drive!!

I was thinking of taking it back to the stealership for an assessment.

Yet on my return journey from my bank holiday weekend - the audio system was fine!!!

The only difference that I can recall is that on my outward journey I had placed my mobile fone (SE P800) in the cubby hole under the audio 10 head unit; while on the return journey I had placed it in the cubby hole near the (auto) gearstick!!!

So, the question is - can a mobile fone interferre with the functions of the audio 10? Has anyone else had a problem like this??

Regards

Tony

Loose ISO Plug / Loose fibre-optic lead from the CD Changer, perhaps ? Do you have the keys to remove the unit & check ?

S.

no dont have keys to remove unit. But, as I have stated - the audio system is working fine now!! Drove down from Leeds, no problems with the audio system.

I'm scared to put the mobile under the head under the head unit!!! Otherwise I could tell you if the problem re-occurs and then I can prove that it is the interferrence from the mobile.

It's unlikely that the mobile could cause the unit to lose power, very unlikely in fact. It is possible that the wiring is loose somewhere, it can be fine for a while before a particular bump will knock it out and the unit will cut out. If it is the mobile it doesn't explain the main unit cutting out also.... try it under the headunit, i'd be interested to hear if it was, even if it is it wouldn't cause any long term damage that's for sure.

Ok Cossie 2.5 I'll put the mobile under the head unit again and will report back to the forum.

I agree that I have never heard of the mobile interferring with the electrics of the CD changer. That's why I posted the question on the forum to see if anyone else has had similar problems.

I have an Audio 10 Radio Cassette in W203 which is cutting out too. Power stays on, displays radio or tape playing but no sound.

Do you still have the problem?

Should have added that it may be pure coincidence but my phone is the same model. Sony Ericsson P800. Will try with different phone in car and report back.

Yes I still get the problem - BUT only when my mobile - Sony Ericsson P800 (Bluetooth on) is placed in the cubby hole under the Audio 10 Radio Cassette. I've not tried another mobile - but I will try it and report back - I still feel that it is due to the Bluetooth or the actual radio frequency.

However, it appears that no one else on this forum has had this problem - Come on guys/gals, place your bluetooth mobile in the cubby hole inder the head unit and let me know; OR is this a design fault with the SEP800 and the MB audio 10???

Hi,

I have a W203 witha Audio20, when ever i get in the car I put my mobile Nokia 6230 in the cubby hole under the player and have no problems at all. My bluetooth is always active and i use my headset in the car at the same time as having the music playing.

Hope this helps

Thanks Dinesh, that does help a bit - however you do have the better head unit than what I have :D

I will try another bluetooth mob. and report back.

I'm just wandering if anyone else has a SEP800 and if they have had problems with their audio headunits - whatever car, whatever headunit.

I had the same problem with my W203 when it was new. Turned out they pinched the fiber optic cable in back between it and the CD changer when they installed the CD changer. Sometimes it worked fine, sometimes the sound would cut in/out but the radio worked perfectly fine otherwise. They replaced the fiber optic cable and all was well. What you can try is to remove the Audio 10, unplug the fiber cable and put the radio back in. It will work fine without it other than accesories that depend on that like the CD Changer, phone module and see if that clears up the problem, if it does it's a fairly inexpensive cable to replace. You don't need keys to remove the radio, just to start the car unless you brits refer to a Torx #20 screwdriver as a key as that's what you will need. Instructions for removing the radio are on my website at www.Buellwinkle.com

Took my car into the dealership to have the Stereo checked. Wasn't working when taken in but came out working. Dealer said they had reset unit. Charged £35 inc vat. So far so good even with SE p800 in cubby under unit. Will report back if any more problems.

Now that i come to think about it... mine did this too :O

I just left it for 20 min and then tried it again and it worked

Mine has had no further problems since being reset by the dealer.
