mobile mechanic

I recently bought a 1968 Mercedes 250 saloon, I think its running too rich and I'm struggling to get it running properly cuts out, spark plugs very sooty. does anybody know of a good mechanic who can help? preferably mobile and knows about these engines. I live in Preston Lancashire. thanks

Any chance it's something simple like a stuck float in the carburettor? - Give it a tap with the end of a screwdriver and see if that settles it.

Our old Merc used to do the opposite; it would vapour-lock, so I got quite good at emptying just enough fuel from the filter to get it to start again.

Best to ask local people,where I live we have a guy who repairs cars in a large garage behind his bungalow,great guy,cheap and takes on anything ,I used him when my left front fog light got a crack ,I bought the light ,he jacked the car took off the shroud and removed the light, fitted the new one checked it worked and charged £20
