Passed two roadside mobile speed cameras last night.
One at the usual spot on the road out of Barnsley thru Darton at 7.30 pm.
The other on the Denby Dale Road outside the Cedar Court Hotel.
This one at 10.30 pm !!!
My God ... They'll be standing out in the rain next !!

I was almost certain that none of the mobile speed cameras in use in the UK have Home Office type approval for use in the dark!

Of course if they are just using them as an excuse to stop somebody and administer a roadside breath test then that's very different but I suspect that any speeding ticket issued by them at that time of the day would be easily contested.

Not true. They can be used in the rain, too.

That said, they may struggle to get an S172 request / NIP to someone they pinged within 14 days bearing in mind the series of public holidays we're just about to have...

Is it 14 days or 14 working days, anybody know

14 calendar days from the date of the alleged offence.

Would this be like shooting fish in a barrel given that most people would be speeding away from the horrors of Barnsley?

Were they definitely speed camera vans, or could they perhaps have been NPR vans used by VOSA.

Def speed cameras,

johnsco, watch out on Rotherham road, Athersley South, between Schoras chippy and the Athersley Arms, road is straight and wide and easy to stray over 30 mph limit or further on near the Hope Inn just where the dual carriage way ends and limit goes back down to 30. Seen them between 7 am and 10 pm, about twice a week. The big van is easy to see but the little buggar can hide among the parked cars

Definitely speed cameras.
Carefully-placed in locations to maximise fund-raising.
