MOBILO life

I know that lots of you will already know about MOBILO but I found it really useful over the Bank holiday weekend.

My S class was showing an error with ABS,ESP,BAS and Pre-Safe. Also the steering was very heavy.

So, I got home and called MOBILO (full dealer service record required), although my car is now out of warranty they still sent a van out.

Now, many times I have read on here that when presented with a problem the poster should get their car on a STAR machine to determine that fault. Well that's exactly what MOBILO man did, showed up that a speed sensor was gone on front N/S.

All credit to the man, he removed the sensor and cleaned it up but the same error showed by the time I reached the end of my drive.

The great bit was it was free and I was able to tell the dealer exactly what was wrong with my car when I took it in for a new one (was also able to check it was in stock beforehand). Or possibly you would want to do the repair yourself - either way a free diagnostic at your own home is pretty nifty.

So next time you have something wrong consider calling MOBILO first, I'm not sure if the car needs to be comletely incapacitated first but the last few times that I have used them the car could be moved however would it be advisable with all the braking safety features shut down?

I agree - I recently had a great experience with them - within 2 hours of the first call, my car had been taken away and a hire car was on the drive. All free. Brilliant service.

I have also used them in this country, and France and Switzerland.:bannana::bannana:

Excellent service.

Sounds like outstanding service.

My understanding is that Mobilo is for the life of the car/30years as long as its got full MBSH. I have used them twice in 20 years. 1 flat tyre and locked out of my car by central locking misoperating, and the other when my SL (R230) roof stuck midoperation ( both cars out of warranty)

Excellent service but can anyone confirm my first sentence or have I just been lucky:)

can someone explain the ins and outs of this service? I have no idea about it?

It is a bespoke MB breakdown / recovery service - like an upmarket AA service operated by knowledgeable and polite "bend over backwards to help you sir" technicians trained on MB cars. Free of charge for as long as you keep up with the MBSH - I guess the logic is that a fully maintained MB is not going to break down very often. It is very good - the price is the full MBSH.

I rather think the logic is that it encourages owners to keep their cars serviced with dealers. It also ensures that in the event of a breakdown the car is recovered to a MB dealer and not an indy.

Given the potential premiums charged by MB dealers for servicing it's not really free.

When is it established that the callout will be free? I mean did they check your service history on their computer before they set out to meet you, or did they expect you to let them see the service book when they called?

Well in 5 years of Merc ownership I've never needed to use Mobilo. I guess the day I stop having a FMBSH will be the day I need to call them out :o

Quite right - thats why I said "the price is the full MBSH"

I rang Mobilo last week to confirm that I was covered although my car is now 7 years old but I do have FMBSH. I gave them the registration number of my car and they told me that their records were incomplete and didn't show that I had the car serviced by a main dealer last year. I was therefore told that it may be best to keep my service book in the car to prove that I did have the full history should I need to call on Mobilo. I told them that I didn't want to do this in case the car got stolen etc. The guy said OK but said that if I did call out Mobilo they might ask for my credit card details just in case I didn't have the full service history but they would check when they got back to the office after recovering my vehicle, e.g. by contacting the main dealer. He also confirmed that I was covered for the next 23 years as long as I kept up the dealer service!

You can therefore always give Mobilo a ring (using their emergency number) and they will confirm what records they hold for you.

Hope this helps.

There's a thread about it here: http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=63522 . Like everything Mercedes related it's fiendishly complicated and designed to confuse and cause annoyance, rather than help.

In your case, it's unlikely tyre changing would be covered now. To be fair, this is typical of manufacturer backed schemes, but it's potentially a significant issue especially if you have a lady in your life who uses the car. And it's not recommended that anyone changes a wheel on a motorway.

Also, in the OP's case, I thought Mobilo covered the cost of minor repairs.
