What are peoples thoughts on omitting the model designation on a new Mercedes? i have ordered a new E Class and wanted to know if there were any pros/cons.

Do you mean not having the badge on the boot?

I'm not in favour of car badges. I don't wear clothes with the brand names and sizes written all over them either ;)

In the 80s Volvo used to write all kinds of nonsense on the boot (Catalyst, ABS) To me it looked ridiculous writing out the whole car specification.

Just my opinion......I know many will differ :)

IMO if you have a good high end engine then keep it, if its the smallest engine, maybe loose it.

generally people remove the badges if they have smaller engines - usually.

personally i think its OK to debadge.

search for "debadge" on here - its been discussed before

I've debadged all of mine. One didn't have a badge anyway, although the MB dealers from whom I bought it tossed one in FOC. Another conceals the identity of a TT, which the sharp eyed will spot from the tailpipes, and which I'm happy to have as a Q-car, especially with Porsches following (as they often do . . . ). The third badge was corroding badly; I took it off and thought the resultant naked boot actually looked better.

It has been discussed before and it appears obvious that some order the car debadged to hide the fact that is is with a small engine, some leave it out because they don't want to make a number from the bigger engine.

I have ordered the 350cdi

That means the biggest diesel currently available.

I had my cars ordered without the badges because it makes cleaning the rear a lot easier. One might consider the small engine on a 221 being another reason, perhaps not for the 204 or or the 212.

I agree with debadged too. My current W209 sadly has the 280 badge on its rear- not my choice, I would happily remove if certainty of no damage being caused to bodywork.

Far to many people these days spend a disproportionate time shouting and bawling about what they claim to have, or have achieved- yawn I say......but that's just my opinion.

To badge or not to badge. Now that's a question. But to the OP we like the new E. No need to find a spurious question just to tell us you've ordered a new one. Well done.

Show it off then. Debadge will make it look like a E220... :)

What would be wrong with that? It should not matter what it looks like but what it actually is. One may even prefer some jealous neighbours to assume it is an E220, I feel something similar on some earlier posts too (not on the quote).

If it was only how it looked like, everyone would by an E220CDI and rebadge it to an E350CDI?

i have de badged all my mercs infact i have just taken the badge of the back of my clk i bought today. it does look better i will post pick tomorrow with it both ways as its to dark now for a good pic.

you could say your hiding how slow it is but i would rather your hiding how fast it is keep them guessing

How to get them off

Option 1 ask the dealer to do it

Option 2 boil the kettle with it about half full when done top it up with cold water until you can just keep your finger under it then pour the water slowly over the badge back and forth until its all gone then use something plastic with a thin edge something from the kitchen will do and gently lift them off they come off so easy with warm water you could just pull them off with your fingers if you can grip them.

Everyone will just assume you have the smallest engine but don't want the world to know...but we all do.

Isn't it odd. On another forum, some members thought it was mainly those with large engines who debadged, so as not to upset the environmentally obsessed and risk being scratched.

Who cares anyway? :) If I wanted badges/or not, it'd be my choice, I wouldn't really worry about the masses.

Strange though that with no badges many people 'think' about stuff. I was selling one of my 2.5-16s a while ago (which didn't have model badges) and the number of wild thoughts that it generated amongst buyers was quite surprising. 'Is it real', 'has it been in an accident?', etc. For the sake of £20 of badges, if either of the above were an issue, don't you think someone would try and conceal the fact?

Personally, I'd leave them on. Unless you prefer to remove the badges, in which case leave them off ;)

Will

here are two pics to try and make your mind up hope it helps

My car came unbadged. If I was buying any new MB now I'd go for unbadged.

It just looks better with only the star in the centre of the boot lid IMHO.

I would always debadge myself, but rebadging cars with a lower engine can be quite fun as well, like a C63 AMG with a C180K badge on the back, will certainly surprise some people at the traffic lights!

Most ( 99% ) people will not notice.

Who cares what other poeple think. If you're the owner and you prefer unbadged then *you* notice.

I don't like Intel and Microsoft labels on my computer either.
