I'm currently talking to someone on the Lotus 7 Club forum about the possibility of getting a first-floor apartment balcony on the main straight to view the Monaco grand prix this year (21-23 May).

To make it (relatively!) reasonable in terms of costs we're looking for a minimum of 16 people to book.

Anyone interested???? :D We have about 6 definites so far and I'd really like to make this a goer if at all possible as I've never been to the Monaco GP before, so if you're interested, or know anyone who might be, let me know! :bannana:

Here's all the info I currently have - he seems happy to organise most of the trip so assuming it all gets off the ground fairly soon, I think the only thing you'd need to do yourself is get there!

For info re the accommodation mentioned, Mougins is a village in the hills
just above Cannes - it's where most of the people who work in Cannes
actually live. I'm sure he could sort out transfers to the train station
in Cannes (40 mins direct to Monaco).

Alternatively he might be able to sort out accommodation in Cannes - this
tends to be 1 bed apartments - 1 double bed/2 singles and a sofa bed in the
living area. The accommodation can range from typically French i.e. very
basic but ideal for dossing down in, to rather pleasant indeed (typically 2
bed, 2 bath, balcony etc).

I should also point out that the Film Festival also finishes the weekend of
the 21st/22nd May (having taken place over the preceding two weeks) so
Cannes will be manic as well (read expensive), but you might want to pop
down a little earlier to sample the atmosphere.

I am happy to organise the balcony & potentially the
accommodation/transfers, flights would have to be left to the individuals.

View the Monaco Grand Prix from a private apartment with balcony on the
fist floor of Le Beau Rivage. Less than 5m from the cars!

Offer includes 16 passes for qualifying on Saturday and the FI Race on
Sunday, 72" flat screen TV with SKY English coverage and 16 sets of ear
defenders!

Lunch and Champaign can be supplied if required.

Price: EURO 21,000 (including brokers commission)

This does not include accommodation, which we could arrange for everyone in
Mougins or somesuch very reasonably ... or indeed in Cannes. The apartment
is a 2 bedroomed 2 bathroomed apartment, and he says that at a push with a
slight price adjustment that could be used ... If there is interest your
side though we will do a full proposal,

Maff that's great - if we can get this up and running I think it would be really cool

And you'll be pleased to hear the price is definitely for the entire package!! Dammit I'd be expecting my own personal helicopter, unlimited champagne, 24-hour butler and personal toilet-seat wiper  for 21,000 Euros per person! :D

I'll get back to Ben and see where we stand on total numbers at the moment - think we might need to move fairly quickly to secure it though so the sooner you can let me know how many are definitely interested the better.

I'll have a chat with the other 2 that are interested tomorrow.

My only worry is accomodation for the weekend.............

We might be able to get the apartment for the weekend though I think it would put the costs up - I have already mentioned this to the organiser and I think if we get enough interest he will look into it. Obviously it will be a 'bring a sleeping bag and doss on the floor' thing if we do that but it would save us having to find somewhere to stay.

There are also a couple of other options mentioned in the original email I had so I suspect we will be able to sort something out - the guy organising seems happy to sort out accommodation as well as he has a contact in Cannes who organises conferences and should know where to look - hope so anyway as not surprisingly it seems to be pretty booked up anywhere on the Cote d'Azur that weekend! ;)

Hotel accommodation will be a problem. I'm going to Monaco on Sunday 22nd May to go on a cruise, and I did look into going early to see the Grand Prix, but there are no hotel rooms available in the area, unless your prepared to pay silly money.

Did anyone go ?

:D :D If they did they certainly will not be reading this ! ;)

I reckon Kimmi has finally got the 320CDI working properly. Fingers crossed for Sunday.

Regards,
John

Just flown back from business meetings in Budapest, so couldn't go anyway :(

What a shame. Did any of your friends go?

It looks like McLaren are in with a very good chance of winning the 'procession'.

The noise in the narrow streets of Monaco must be absolutely stunning.

Regards,
John
