So, a few days ago I tacked together all my pictures at 800x600 and made some thumbnails and put them online...

Since then, I've had daily bandwith usage of 200mb (min) - 750mb(max)... is this normal!?

The thumbnails are roughly 1kb each, while the actual images anywhere between 40kb and 100kb.

The album is flash managed...

I WOULD post a link, but I'm afraid I will go over my 3gb monthly bandwidth! and I can't upgrade for another 20-or so days (for some stupid reason 1&1 allows you to upgrade your package only once...)

What are "normal" stats for a small site, "private" (as in, everyone CAN see it; but only a few people would WANT to see it...)

Can you monitor your usage from your control panel?

Just wondering if the usage is the sight being indexed or something...maybe the IP's ight give you a clue.

Yes, nowhere near as well as I wish I could (I can see numbers of hits from ISPs or backbones - but not how "much" of the site they bothered looking at!)
18/6/2007 Monday 9
19/6/2007 Tuesday 22
20/6/2007 Wednesday 2
21/6/2007 Thursday 0
22/6/2007 Friday 5
23/6/2007 Saturday 3
24/6/2007 Sunday 178
(ok, so 178 page views might not seem excessive, but with only 22 unique visitors on sunday... thats like 8mb per visitor...)

80% of my hits are from blueyonder...
1 blueyonder.co.uk 22 81.48%
2 yahoo.com 2 7.41%
3 1und1.de 1 3.70%
4 dxi.net 1 3.70%
5 ev1servers.net 1 3.70%

Which makes sense as I (and most of my friends) are with blueyonder/ntl/virgin... The others... no clue!

My question is probably; for a site that shows pictures (and lots of them) does 8mb seem "wastefull"? (I'm concerned of the overheads of having a flash based website - its my first time totally replacing html with flash... well as totally as possible!)

178 page hits; 22 "independent" hits

178/22 = 8.xxmb per site hit on average

Yeah, 22 is 22 unique IP's. Hence, at 178 pages viewed in total (I really only have 1 page...) its 8 "refreshes" per visitor (sorry, not Mb, refreshes!).

As for size, I'm calculating 2.3Gb @ 178 pages = 12.x mb per page which is fairly large!

The images are 800x600 for the full size ones and 1kb for the thumbnails (50xsomething).

Either way, I've just registered with a new host in the states. Paid by paypal too. I have 3000Gb a month, so I'de like to see that being filled ;)

I'll do a frame redirect of my current domains until I'm happy with the new host. I'm ftp'ing the files over right now (I didn't even bother looking if they had SSH- oh well). When thats done (tomorrow-ish) I'll post a link ;)
