Hello again...

I'm loving my new C Class so far :)

I have a few questions though that I thought someone on the forum may be able to answer...

1) I'd like to be able to change the 'addtional speedo' which shows km/h under the clock on the multi-function display to show outside temperature instead. The manual tells me that this isn't possible with UK registered vehicles! Is this correct? I can't imagine why that would be the case?

2) I've connected my phone (iphone 7) via bluetooth so I can stream music (which works well) however I can't see track listings / playlists etc. Should I be able to select artists / playlists etc from the car itself?

3) I got a warning message this morning telling me to check coolant level. I live on a hill and therefore it's difficult to check as the vehicle isn't level, could the fact that I park (pointing downhill) on an incline result in the message being displayed (I'll still check it next time I park somewhere on level ground!). Also, if it does need topping up can anyone confirm the type of coolant I'd need to use (I've just changed the coolant on my motorcycle and have some 'OAT' coolant left so was wondering if I could use that (I've checked online however there seems to be conflicting advice with most people saying 'take it into a Mercedes garage' which seems unneccesary?

4) I've also read conflicting reports on whether I can send routes to the navigation system from my iphone prior to getting into the car, if this is possible it would be very useful for me. I believe my car has COMAND NTG4.7. Does anyone know if it's possible? and if so, what I'd need to do / install on my phone etc.?

Thanks in advance....

Ian

Do you mean send routes, or send destinations? You can send destinations from the Mercedes Me app, but I'm an android user, so I'll leave it to an iphone user to tell you how to do that.

1. This can be changed (aka 'delete UK mod'), but only by using MB STAR diagnostic compoter, i.e. this is a job for MB dealer or specialist.

2. When connecting iPhone over Bluetooth as streaming audio device, COMAND is passive (other than controlling the volume), and the tracks need to be managed from the iPhone. Which is great if you have a passanger that can do that, not so great if you are driving alone. I believe that in order to be able to fully manage the iPhone tracks from COMAND, your car will need to be equipped with the optional Universal Media Interface (UMI), and the iPhone will need to be connected to the COMAND unit via UMI cable (not Bluetooth). The UMI connector used to be inside the glove compartment (so that the phone itself is locked away while you are driving), but I believe that on your car it will connect to the USB port inside the centre arm rest. The car's Datacard will tell you if the car is equipped with UMI, and the UMI cable can be purchased from www.comandonline.co.uk.

3. Yes, parking on a hillside can be the cause of the coolant level warning. If only a small amount is missing when you check with the car on level ground, then I would just add water (soft water i.e. low-calcium if you can get it). If more coolant is needed, then it will have to be original MB coolant, because the factory-filled coolant is long life and good for 15 years.

4. Firstly, I am assuming that you managed to tether your iPhone to COMAND online over Bluetooth, and that COMAND has Internet connection. Unfortunately you can no longer send complete routes from Google to COMAND over-the-air, in fact you can't send even single destinations from Google anymore. The only option currently available is to send destinations to the car from www.here.com, but only from the PC/desktop version of the website, and not from the mobile phone app. You can however save complete routes from your PC to an SD-Card, and then import the routes from the SD Card to COMAND (but not over-the-air).

Some other pointers regarding your COMAND:

If you have a factory-fitted NTG4.7, then your car was first registered on or after June 2013, and will also have the KOM Module with the built-in Vodafone simcard.

The KOM Module enables your car to receive Mercedes Me services, though I am afraid that when you log in to the Mercedes Me portal you will find that the only service available for your car is the TomTom Live Traffic service - I think the rest of the services were only available from W205 onwards.

And I don't believe that the Mercedes Me app will connect to your car (as opposed to the generic Mercedes Me Adapter app that connects to an OBDII adapter) - but it's worth trying.

The TomTom Live Traffic service is subscription-based, and after the first 3 free years expire can be renewed online from the Mercedes Me portal for 1, 2, or 3 years (as I mentioned in my previous response to your other thread).

In addition, you can update the maps data, the latest version is 2019 v18.0. You will need to purchase the USB media and the PIN code for this update.

And last, when you are next at the dealer or specialist, ask them to check if COMAND is on the latest firnware, and upgrade as necessary.

Thanks again for all your help, much appreciated :)
