My passenger seat ran over an empty plastic bottle and it now needs a new seat base with motor - £977!!! Are there any good used parts dealers that someone could recommend please? I have seen various parts and seats on ebay but would rather check with someone that the part is def correct - there could be variants of it or something.
Thanks folks!

I would contact a reputable independent Merc specialist for a second opinion , i would think the motor would have an internal overcurrent "trip" safety cutout to prevent harm to the occupant. This should minimize damage to the mechanics under the seat should anything get caught in the rails.

What did they say was exactly wrong with the base that it needed to be replaced ?

If it was me i would track down a similar seat and swap the base + motor over , if it is really required , then make an office chair from the seat or re-sell it for someone else to make one to recoup some £££

Thanks - the motor cogs have been ripped off apparently - it's pretty difficult to see under there TBH

Do some local research, motors can be rewound if required. The cogs might be made by a local machine workshop.

It's only the passenger seat so for me setting the seat in the one reasonable position while the damaged components are removed for repair would be the way.

Best to contact a really good S/H parts dealer like Dronsfields & ask them
I’m surprised to see the phrase really good used in the same sentence as Dronsfields.

Carry out a search either on Google or on this forum to learn the overwhelming body of opinion about that establishment.

I would suggest a reputable parts supplier such as Mercman , Rob Parker , or numerous others .

Firstly , is this for your E250 ?

Secondly , you may be able to get just the component parts you need to repair the seat , you probably don’t need the entire base .

Always start by pricing the parts at the dealer so you will know if others are being reasonable or ripping you off .

Curious as to how running over a plastic bottle broke your seat.

Why not get in contact with shapeways and see if you can get new cogs made up, they can be made in nylon or bronzed steel, i have 1 of each on the way at the moment for another application

I think you should write the car off and just get another one :D

You do realise that EBay has complete interiors for the E250/Convertible for a lot less than £500 from reputable breakers/suppliers.

I referred a friend of mine with a similar situation to Alex Crow Independent after a similar horrific MB quote , whatever it was it was done in no time for £100 ish
Guess where he goes now for all his work ;)

I’ve got some seat base motors kicking around in my spare parts box but they are from a S211 / W211. If you have a part number I can check them. You can have them fit the cost of the postage if they are any use to you.

I've only just purchased my nearly new E220D coupe from a Mercedes Dealership who failed to spot a small glass pasta bottle under the passenger seat, more then likely left there by accident by the previous owner...! This has resulted in damage to the seat frame and motor which will now cost the dealership £1800.
